September 11: Remembering the Courage, Sacrifice, and Unity of America

Twenty-five years have passed since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

For many Americans, the memories remain vivid.

We remember where we were.

We remember the images.

We remember the uncertainty.

Most importantly, we remember the people.

Nearly 3,000 lives were lost that day. Families were forever changed, communities were shaken, and our country experienced a tragedy that would leave a lasting mark on generations of Americans.

Today is a day to pause.

A Day of Remembrance

September 11 is first and foremost about remembering those who did not come home.

We remember the men and women who went to work that morning.

We remember the passengers and crews aboard the four aircraft.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, paramedics, military personnel, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger when every instinct would have told them to run away.

Their courage reminds us that heroism often appears in moments when someone chooses to help another person without knowing the cost.

We Honor Those Who Served

The events of September 11 also began years of service and sacrifice for countless American military members and their families.

Many answered the call to serve.

Some never returned home.

Others returned carrying wounds that could be seen and many that could not.

Their sacrifice, along with the sacrifices of their families, deserves our continued gratitude.

We Remember the Unity That Followed

In the days after September 11, Americans came together.

Flags appeared on homes, businesses, vehicles, and front porches.

Neighbors helped neighbors.

Communities gathered together.

People thanked first responders and service members.

Differences that had seemed important suddenly felt much smaller.

For a time, we were reminded that despite everything that may divide us, we are still one nation.

That spirit of unity is worth remembering too.

Never Forget Is More Than a Phrase

To never forget means more than remembering what happened.

It means remembering the lives behind the numbers.

It means honoring courage.

It means respecting sacrifice.

It means teaching future generations why this day matters.

And it means remembering that freedom, service, community, and unity should never be taken for granted.

Today, we pause to remember.

We honor those we lost.

We thank those who served.

We stand with the families who continue to carry the weight of that day.

And we remain grateful for the men and women who continue to protect and serve our communities and our nation.
